IT Service Manager (IT Disaster Recovery & Portfolio Management)
The locations for this role are Newport and Titchfield (Fareham).
About the Roles and Location
The role follows ONS hybrid working principles—attending the office with purpose, contributing to a 40% office attendance requirement. The induction process will be conducted in person.
About the Organisation
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest producer of official statistics, covering economic, social, and demographic topics. This includes monitoring economic growth, estimating population trends, and providing indicators on inflation, employment, crime, and migration.
We are looking for a proactive IT Service Manager to join our IT Disaster Recovery (ITDR) & Portfolio Management Team. This team ensures resilience, governance, and effective delivery of IT services critical to ONS priorities, including:
- Establishing and ensuring a robust IT disaster recovery capability across hybrid cloud and on-premise technologies.
- Testing, validating, and maintaining recovery plans.
- Facilitating Delivery Management Boards to prioritise projects and manage risk effectively.
Key Responsibilities
IT Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
- Coordinate and enhance ITDR activities, including documentation reviews, training, and annual simulation exercises.
- Lead and support governance forums, ensuring CITS Delivery Management Boards run efficiently, drive completion of actions, and enable effective decision-making.
- Develop, maintain, and regularly review CITS Business Continuity Plans (BCP) to strengthen organisational resilience.

Portfolio Management & Reporting
- Contribute to CITS portfolio governance processes and roadmaps while aligning them with strategic priorities.
- Produce and assure high-quality, timely reporting, identifying risks, trends, and opportunities for improvement with data-driven insights.
- Proactively identify and implement improvements, strengthening controls and enhancing overall service effectiveness.

- Service Focus: Align multiple IT services to achieve the best operational outcomes.

- User Focus: Engage stakeholders and leverage data-driven insight to bolster ITDR governance and CITS outcomes.

- Salary: £34,587 with £10,019 contributed toward the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

- Security Check & Eligibility:
- Must have been physically present in the UK for 3 consecutive years pre-applying (clearance exceptions reviewed on a case-by-case basis).

Stages of Selection
Stage 1: Application
- Submit a CV and a personal statement (max. 1,000 words), focusing on relevant skills, knowledge, and STAR-format examples (Situation, Task, Action, Result).
- Highlight alignment with essential criteria in the person specification.
Stage 2: Interview
- Conducted online via Microsoft Teams.
- Includes Success Profiles assessment, covering technical and behavioural competencies.
- Candidates may be ranked on merit and placed on a 12-month reserve list.
Important Dates (2026)
- 7/17: Eligibility checks submitted until 7/23.
- 7/24: Sift live.
- 8/10 onwards: Interviews begin.
