Location

The locations for this role are Newport and Titchfield (Fareham).

This role is aligned to ONS hybrid working principles, which are based on attending the office with purpose. The postholder will be expected to contribute to the organisation’s overall 40% office attendance, in line with business and role requirements.

The induction process for the role will be conducted in person.

Job summary

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest producer of official statistics, covering a range of key economic, social and demographic topics. These include measuring changes in the value of the UK economy, estimating the size, geographic distribution and characteristics of the population, and providing indicators of price inflation, employment, earnings, crime and migration.

We are seeking a proactive IT Service Manager to join our IT Disaster Recovery (ITDR) & Portfolio Management Team.

The team plays a critical role in ensuring the resilience, governance, and effective delivery of IT services that underpin ONS’ Priority Outputs. It is responsible for establishing and assuring robust, consistent IT Disaster Recovery (ITDR) capability across a hybrid technology landscape of cloud and on-premise, ensuring recovery plans are tested, validated, and fit for purpose.

Through the facilitation of Delivery Management Boards, the team provides oversight across the CITS delivery portfolio, enabling clear prioritisation and effective risk management.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and improve IT Disaster Recovery (ITDR) activities, including documentation reviews, training, and annual simulation exercises
  • Lead and support governance forums, ensuring Corporate IT & Services (CITS) Delivery Management Boards are well-run, actions are driven through to completion, and outcomes enable effective decision-making
  • Drive the development, maintenance, and regular review of CITS Business Continuity Plans (BCP), strengthening organisational resilience
  • Contribute to the CITS portfolio governance processes and roadmaps, ensuring they remain aligned to strategic priorities
  • Produce and assure high-quality, timely reporting, using insight to highlight risks, trends, and opportunities for improvement
  • Proactively identify and implement opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance overall service effectiveness
