IT Support Technician

About the role
We’re looking for an IT Support Technician to join our IT Team and play a key role in being responsible for delivering advanced technical support to ensure the efficient resolution of IT issues for internal and external users. This role involves troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network-related problems, as well as providing support for IT infrastructure, system administration, and security.
You will play a key role in maintaining the stability and performance of the IT environment by identifying trends in recurring issues, implementing solutions, and collaborating on key improvement projects. You will also work closely with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure continuity of service.
In this position, staying updated on emerging technologies is essential, as you will be involved in implementing new tools and processes to optimize IT operations. A proactive approach to problem-solving and strong communication skills are required to ensure end-user satisfaction and seamless IT operations.
This role is based in either the Peterborough or Halifax office, with occasional opportunities to work on key infrastructure and network projects.

Key responsibilities
- Providing in-person and remote IT queries and support on workstation, telecoms, and applications across all AGL UK based sites in a timely fashion.
- Act as a point of contact for internal staff, triaging and prioritizing incoming support requests via phone, email, or ticketing system. Log incidents and service requests, ensuring accurate documentation and resolution tracking.
- Recognise critical issues and maintain communication with stakeholders.
- Installing software and patches across workstations.
- Assist in routine maintenance tasks, such as updating software applications, running system diagnostics, and performing regular backups to ensure data integrity and security.
- Supporting management information and reporting preparing and developing ideas for improvements.
- Assist with keeping asset registers up to date and adhere to asset management processes.
- Help maintain company intranet platform.
- Working towards improving efficiencies within the group by helping automate tasks.
- Help set up and configure workstations, laptops, peripherals, and other IT equipment for new employees or office relocations.
- Ensuring software compliance across the group keeping track of all licencing.
- Maintaining and updating documentation detailing current infrastructure.

Skills and experience
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Hardworking and can-do attitude.
- Good communication skills.
- Foundational understanding of concepts of WAN/LAN and Wireless Networks.
- Good understanding of hardware (Workstations/Servers/Printers/Projectors).
- Solution-orientated looking to get to the bottom of an issue and use initiative.
- Flexible and collaborative approach to tasks.
- A strong passion for technology and a desire to pursue a career in IT support.
Travel and driving
- Full UK driving licence required.
- Willingness to travel to Activate Group site locations across the UK.
