IT Systems Engineer
We are seeking a skilled and proactive IT Systems Engineer to join our IT Services team, playing a key role across both infrastructure engineering and cyber security operations.
Location: Taunton Salary: £36,000-£38,000 Contract: Permanent Working pattern: 37 Hours per week, based in our Taunton office, with the option to work from home up to 2 days a week
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT professional looking to develop their career across both infrastructure and cyber security, contributing to a modern and evolving IT environment.
What can you expect to be doing?
This is a varied and hands-on role supporting and enhancing our on-premise and cloud environments, while also helping to protect the organisation’s systems and data from cyber threats.
Working collaboratively within the IT Team, you will take shared ownership of core IT services, resilience, and security posture. You will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving critical IT infrastructure and services, including Microsoft Azure, Windows Server environments, Microsoft 365, and core network systems. You will also contribute to cyber security operations, including monitoring security alerts, vulnerability management, and incident response.
Your day to day work will include:
Supporting and managing on-premise and Azure-based infrastructure, including Windows Server and Azure services Maintaining core services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and Microsoft 365 Providing advanced troubleshooting and escalated technical support for complex issues Monitoring system performance, availability, and capacity to ensure high service resilience Supporting network, telephony, and security infrastructure in collaboration with third-party providers Managing SIEM alerts, investigating security incidents, and supporting cyber security improvements Carrying out vulnerability scanning and supporting remediation and penetration testing activities Managing software licensing and ensuring compliance across all platforms

What will you be good at?
You will bring strong experience in IT infrastructure support and administration, with a solid understanding of cloud and on-premise environments. You will also have a keen interest in cyber security and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risk.
You will have:
Experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server and Azure environments Knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Azure AD) Understanding of networking, infrastructure, and enterprise IT systems Exposure to cyber security tools such as SIEM platforms and vulnerability management Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve complex technical issues A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a team
