IT Systems Manager
Location: Hybrid, attendance at our Stonehouse (Gloucestershire) required on a weekly basis
Salary: Competitive package including excellent benefits
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced IT Systems Manager to lead the operational integrity, security, and continual improvement of our IT systems and services. Reporting to the IT & CSEC Director, you'll provide technical and people leadership to our IT team, set the strategic direction for IT service delivery, and ensure alignment with business objectives, defence-sector expectations, and regulatory requirements.
You'll be accountable for the day-to-day operation of IT systems and services, the competence and performance of the IT team, and the effective implementation of ISO/IEC 20000-1, ISO/IEC 27001, and Cyber Essentials Plus controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the availability, performance, and security of IT systems and services
- Leadership and line management of IT Support staff, including Service Desk and Network & Security roles
- Ownership of IT operational processes (incident, request, change, problem, and asset management)
- Define and maintain the IT strategy and roadmap aligned with business and defence requirements
- Ensure IT services meet agreed service levels and business requirements
- Implement and maintain security controls in line with ISO/IEC 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus
- Oversee supplier performance and third-party service delivery
- Chair or contribute to Change Advisory Board (CAB) as required
- Conduct performance reviews and support professional development of team members

The Ideal Candidate will have
- Strong experience managing enterprise IT systems and services
- Demonstrable leadership and people management experience
- Strong understanding of IT service management principles (ITIL)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, infrastructure, networking, and security platforms
- Experience operating within ISO/IEC 20000-1 and ISO/IEC 27001 environments
- Experience supporting Cyber Essentials Plus assessments
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Highly Desirable:
- ITIL 4 Managing Professional or equivalent
- ISO/IEC 20000-1 or ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor certification
- Relevant technical or management qualifications
Successful applicants will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
