IT Systems Project manager

Technical Project Manager – Core Systems (UK IT Team)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our UK Information Technology team for a Technical Project Manager – Core Systems. This role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of Cybersecurity, Core Systems and Software Development projects across DP World UK, ensuring secure, resilient and operationally sound technology solutions that support critical terminal operations.


Key Responsibilities

The Technical Project Manager – Core Systems leads initiatives from discovery and requirements definition through planning, design, implementation and post-deployment stabilisation. The role:

  • Works closely with engineering teams, operational stakeholders and external suppliers to deliver secure and scalable technology solutions.
  • Drives continuous improvement across cybersecurity, core business systems and software applications.
  • Primary locations: DP World London Gateway (Stanford le Hope) or DP World Southampton, with regular travel between terminals to align and support UK business delivery.

Key Contributions

  • Lead end-to-end project delivery for Cybersecurity, Core Systems and Software Development, ensuring scope, timeline, budget and quality targets are met.
  • Manage projects involving:
    • Cybersecurity enhancements
    • Secure application development
    • Identity and access management
    • Vulnerability remediation
    • Core system upgrades
    • Software solutions improving operational efficiency and resilience
  • Oversee the full project lifecycle, including:
    • Initiation
    • Requirements gathering
    • Planning
    • Design sign-off
    • Execution
    • Testing
    • Deployment
    • Hypercare
    • Operational handover
  • Develop and maintain project governance documentation, such as:
    • Delivery plans
    • RAID logs
    • Risk assessments
    • Test strategies
    • Cutover plans
    • Transition-to-support artefacts
  • Ensure projects comply with governance processes, securing approvals for:
    • Technical design
    • Security compliance
    • Testing
    • Operational readiness
  • Manage scope, schedules, dependencies and change requests, escalating risks with actionable plans.
  • Collaborate with:
    • Cybersecurity teams
    • Core Systems teams
    • Software Development teams
    • Operational Technology teams
  • Drive technology delivery against schedule, cost and quality, resolving blockers.
  • Handle user acceptance testing, performance testing, security testing and failover testing for successful deployment.
  • Embed secure-by-design principles, collaborating with Cybersecurity teams on:
    • Vulnerability remediation
    • Patching requirements
    • Access controls
    • Security standards
  • Evaluate third-party suppliers, support RFP/RFI processes and review technical architecture proposals.
  • Ensure effective management of:
    • Post-implementation support
    • Business-as-usual transition
    • Issue resolution during hypercare
  • Manage third-party supplier relationships, ensuring contractual adherence and service levels.
  • Provide project reporting and updates to sponsors and stakeholders, covering:
    • Progress
    • Risks
    • Decisions
    • Business impacts
  • Facilitate workshops, risk reviews, design approvals and deployment readiness meetings.
  • Support UK participation in regional and global cybersecurity, software and systems initiatives.

Key Requirements

  • Experience delivering Cyber Security, Core Systems and/or Software Development projects in complex technical environments.
  • Track record managing full project lifecycles from initiation and planning to operational handover.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Cybersecurity principles
    • Secure application delivery
    • Systems implementation in enterprise environments
  • Beneficial expertise in:
    • Mission-critical Operational Systems, including:
      • Terminal Operating Systems (TOS)
      • Gate Operating Systems (GOS)
      • Navis N4 and Zodiac
    • Identity and Access Management (IAM)
    • Vulnerability management
    • Encryption standards
    • Security compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of high-availability systems, disaster recovery planning and ITIL-aligned service management.
  • Project management skills, including:
    • Delivery planning
    • Risk log creation
    • Test plan development
    • Cutover documentation
  • Experience coordinating technical teams, suppliers and business stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder management, with ability to engage with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Problem-solving with a structured risk management and decision-making approach.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders, build collaborative relationships and drive outcomes across functions.
  • Advantageous experience in operational, logistics or 24/7 environments.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in:
    • IT
    • Cyber Security
    • Software Development
    • Computing
    • Related disciplines or equivalent practical experience.
  • Highly desirable certifications:
    • Project Management: PRINCE2, APM, AgilePM, PMP, PMBOK or equivalent.
    • ITIL: ITIL Foundation.
  • Beneficial technical or vendor certifications.
