About the team
At OSB Group, our Technology function is central to delivering our strategy and supporting our purpose – helping more people securely achieve their ambitions.
As we continue to strengthen and evolve our Payments support capability, we’re recruiting a IT Team Lead – Payments to oversee the day‑to‑day stability, performance and governance of our legacy core payment systems. This is a key operational leadership role, focused on ensuring our payment platforms remain reliable, secure and well‑managed, enabling colleagues across the business to serve customers with confidence.
Reporting to the Lead Software Designer, you’ll lead a small dedicated support team responsible for triaging and resolving live system issues, managing incidents, and safeguarding the production environment. You’ll act as the primary point of contact for payment‑related queries, working closely with IT, business stakeholders and external suppliers to maintain service continuity and drive continual improvement.
The role can be based from our Wolverhampton or Chatham offices with flexibility to operate across within our hybrid policy.
What you will be doing?
As the IT Team Lead for Payments you will help shape the future of our private cloud capabilities, introducing automation, standardisation, and modern engineering practices that enable our infrastructure to be consumed with the agility and consistency of public cloud.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the Payments support team, ensuring incidents and service requests are managed within agreed SLAs and communicated clearly to stakeholders.
- Safeguard the production environment by overseeing release management, ensuring only stable, tested changes are deployed.
- Monitor system health, track recurring issues, and drive long‑term fixes through effective problem management.
- Act as the primary technical contact for payment systems (including Bastian, Phoebus etc), supporting internal teams, external suppliers and key governance forums.
- Maintain accurate documentation, support audits, produce service reporting, and ensure compliance with risk, data governance and security policies.
- Line‑manage and develop your team, building capability, knowledge and a culture of continuous improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
