Are you passionate about technology and enjoy solving technical challenges? Sandwell College is looking for a proactive and customer-focused IT Technician to join our IT Services team on a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover contract.
Supporting more than 15,000 students and staff across The Sandwell Colleges, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our technology infrastructure enables outstanding teaching, learning, and business support. Based at our Sandwell College campus, with opportunities to work across other college sites when required, you'll provide first- and second-line technical support while helping to maintain a modern, innovative, and reliable IT environment.
Whether you're installing new equipment, troubleshooting technical issues, or supporting users with digital technologies, you'll make a real difference every day while developing your skills within a busy and supportive IT team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide responsive first- and second-line IT support to staff and students through the College Helpdesk.
- Install, configure, maintain, and relocate a wide range of IT equipment, including PCs, laptops, Apple Macs, tablets, printers, SmartScreens, projectors, webcams, and other peripherals.
- Deploy software applications and desktop builds using the College's desktop management systems.
- Carry out user account administration and support desktop management activities.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues.
- Support users with College systems, applications, and digital technologies, providing advice and guidance where required.
- Maintain accurate IT documentation, asset registers, and audit records.
- Promote high standards of IT security, confidentiality, and customer service.
- Assist with enrolment activities and other College-wide operational support when required.
- Participate in training and continuous professional development to maintain up-to-date technical knowledge.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

- An Advanced Level qualification or equivalent in an IT-related subject.
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
- Experience working within a busy IT support environment, ideally within education.
- Strong knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems, hardware installation, and software deployment.
- Experience supporting a wide range of IT peripherals, including printers, SmartScreens, webcams, and audio-visual equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting desktop, hardware, and network connectivity issues.
- Knowledge of desktop management systems and software deployment tools.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate technical documentation.
- A flexible and adaptable approach with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
