Lear Apprentice Programme in the UK

We have an exciting apprentice programme running this year in the UK. Throughout the programme, you will use your creativity to bring ideas to life, develop specialist skills and knowledge, pushing the boundaries of your potential.

As a Lear Apprentice you will be mentored by industry-leading experts, earn while you learn and study towards a qualification funded by Lear, all whilst gaining hands-on experience on live IT projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete online daily checklist activities
  • Providing 1st/2nd line technical support & problem analysis/rectification
  • Ensure documentation and procedures are maintained and improved in accordance with ISMS and Sarbanes Oxley requirements
  • Ensuring pro-active monitoring of systems using key performance indicators and dashboards
  • Ensuring performance and availability of all computer systems including hardware, networks, IT security and telecommunications are maintained within the agreed SLAs
  • Monitor Ivanti call logging system and resolve production tickets within agreed SLA
  • Maintain Computer systems to current corporate standards Windows 11 / Server 2022
  • Scorecard compliance activities including system patching, antivirus and CM
  • Purchasing for all IT operations service requirements
  • Configuring all onsite hardware including desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, thin clients, industrial PCs
  • Deploying hardware into production environment to agreed schedules within maintenance windows
  • Processing New user equipment requests / processing Leaver data and equipment requests
  • Monitoring customer EDM and sequences messages
  • Maintaining in-house LJS application to create models to support manufacturing requirements
  • Maintenance and upkeep of networking infrastructure, ensuring stability of LAN/WAN by proactive monitoring and resolving issues, to include Cisco switch configuration, fault finding and hardware upgrades
  • Monitoring Avamar backup jobs
  • Virtual Server monitoring and preventative maintenance to ensure 100% uptime
  • Production server SQL mirroring for disaster recovery and performance monitoring
  • Ensuring all corporate requirements are delivered satisfactorily and on time
  • Disaster recovery corporate compliance and fail over testing practices
  • Software license, inventory and hardware maintenance management
  • General administration and housekeeping of hot swap equipment and materials in the Operations stock room

Course Contents

  • Apply tools and techniques when securely operating and testing networks.
  • Install and configure network components.
  • Implement tools and techniques to monitor, identify, analyse and record systems performance in line with defined specifications.
  • Maintain security of the network against potential threats.
  • Apply tools and or techniques to gather information to troubleshoot issues and or isolate, repair or escalate faults.
  • Communicate outcomes of tasks and record actions in line with organisational procedures.
  • Upgrade, apply and test components to systems configurations ensuring that the system meets the organisation’s requirements and minimises downtime.
  • Interpret information and or specifications received from a manager, customer or technical specialist and accurately implement the defined requirements.
  • Implement techniques to optimise systems or component performance in line with defined specifications.
  • Apply the required level of responsibility when organising and prioritising work tasks, clients’ or stakeholders’ requests in line with SLAs and organisation processes.
  • Explain their job role within the business context to stakeholders to enable a clear understanding on both sides of what their remit is and convey technical constraints.
  • Operate securely, and apply process, policies and legislation within their business responsibilities.
  • Configure and maintain network addressing in line with customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance of network engineering outputs with change management processes including Secure Access Service Edge SASE or Zero-trust networking.

Firebrand’s sector-leading Level 4 Network Engineer (L4NE) Apprenticeship Programme develops apprentices to design, build, maintain and secure multi-vendor networks; additionally, apprentices will develop skills to allow identification and implementation of network performance improvements whilst maintaining network security. Firebrands course is delivered either Online (online live instructor led), or face to face in the classroom environment (your choice). Our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Learning Mentors (LMs) and world-leading trainers prepare apprentices to work across multiple sectors.

  • CompTIA Network+
  • CompTIA Security+

  • Install and Manage Network Architecture
  • Test and Analyse Network issues
  • Planning and working effectively

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English and Maths (grade A*-C/9-4 or equivalent)
  • Three A-Levels in:
    • N/A (grade A*-C or equivalent)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, software and networks (desirable but not essential)
  • Ability to follow processes, procedures and technical instructions
  • Experience using Microsoft 365 applications such as Outlook, Teams and Excel
  • Innovative thinker with capability of driving business improvement through the company
  • Able to work with tight deadlines to meet business requirements
