Network Engineer (Level 4) Apprenticeship
Overview
We have an exciting apprentice programme running this year in the UK. Throughout the programme, you will use your creativity to bring ideas to life, develop specialist skills and knowledge, pushing the boundaries of your potential.
Wage: £23,500 a year. Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab).
Training course: Network engineer (level 4)
Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7.45am - 4.45pm with half an hour unpaid break and Friday - 7.45am - 12.45pm. 39 hours a week
Start date: Tuesday 1 September 2026
Duration: 1 year 6 months

What You'll Do
As a Lear Apprentice, you will be mentored by industry-leading experts, earn while you learn, and study towards a qualification funded by Lear, all while gaining hands-on experience on live IT projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete online daily checklist activities
- Providing 1st/2nd line technical support & problem analysis/rectification
- Ensure documentation and procedures are maintained and improved in accordance with ISMS and Sarbanes Oxley requirements
- Ensuring proactive monitoring of systems using key performance indicators and dashboards
- Ensuring performance and availability of all computer systems including hardware, networks, IT security, and telecommunications are maintained within the agreed SLAs
- Monitor Ivanti call logging system and resolve production tickets within agreed SLA
- Maintain computer systems to current corporate standards Windows 11 / Server 2022
- Scorecard compliance activities including system patching, antivirus, and CM
- Purchasing for all IT operations service requirements
- Configuring all onsite hardware including desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, thin clients, industrial PCs
- Deploying hardware into the production environment to agreed schedules within maintenance windows
- Processing New user equipment requests / processing Leaver data and equipment requests
- Monitoring customer EDM and sequences messages
- Maintaining in-house LJS application to create models to support manufacturing requirements
- Maintenance and upkeep of networking infrastructure, ensuring stability of LAN/WAN by proactive monitoring and resolving issues, to include Cisco switch configuration, fault finding, and hardware upgrades
- Monitoring Avamar backup jobs
- Virtual Server monitoring and preventative maintenance to ensure 100% uptime
- Production server SQL mirroring for disaster recovery and performance monitoring
- Ensuring all corporate requirements are delivered satisfactorily and on time
- Disaster recovery corporate compliance and failover testing practices
- Software license, inventory, and hardware maintenance management
- General administration and housekeeping of hot swap equipment and materials in the Operations stock room

What You'll Learn
Course contents:
- Apply tools and techniques when securely operating and testing networks.
- Install and configure network components.
- Implement tools and techniques to monitor, identify, analyse, and record systems performance in line with defined specifications.
- Maintain security of the network against potential threats.
- Apply tools and/or techniques to gather information to troubleshoot issues and/or isolate, repair, or escalate faults.
- Communicate outcomes of tasks and record actions in line with organizational procedures.
- Upgrade, apply, and test components to systems configurations ensuring that the system meets the organization’s requirements and minimizes downtime.
- Interpret information and/or specifications received from a manager, customer, or technical specialist and accurately implement the defined requirements.
- Implement techniques to optimize systems or component performance in line with defined specifications.
- Apply the required level of responsibility when organizing and prioritizing work tasks, clients’ or stakeholders’ requests in line with SLAs and organization processes.
- Explain their job role within the business context to stakeholders to enable a clear understanding on both sides of what their remit is and convey technical constraints.
- Operate securely, and apply process, policies, and legislation within their business responsibilities.
- Configure and maintain network addressing in line with customer requirements.
- Ensure compliance of network engineering outputs with change management processes including Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) or Zero-trust networking.
Training Schedule
Firebrand’s sector-leading Level 4 Network Engineer (L4NE) Apprenticeship Programme develops apprentices to design, build, maintain, and secure multi-vendor networks; additionally, apprentices will develop skills to allow identification and implementation of network performance improvements while maintaining network security.
Firebrand's course is delivered either Online (online live instructor-led) or face to face in the classroom environment (your choice). Our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Learning Mentors (LMs), and world-leading trainers prepare apprentices to work across multiple sectors.

Essential Qualifications

GCSE in:
- English and Maths (grade A*-C/9-4 or equivalent)

- N/A (grade A*-C or equivalent)

- Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, and networks (desirable but not essential)
