Role Overview
We are seeking a Maintenance Technician to carry out preventative and fault-related maintenance on electronic, fibre optic, and modern transportation assets. This role requires technical excellence, leadership, and teamwork within a dynamic, shift-based work environment.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Carry out routine and preventative maintenance on electronic systems.
- Diagnose and resolve faults logically, with emphasis on fiber optic systems where expertise is required.
- Provide detailed fault analyses for critical or complex issues, escalating as needed.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
- Timely and accurate reporting of asset maintenance (including timesheets, vehicle checks, and defect reporting).
- Adhere to administrative tasks, including personal record-keeping and vehicle inspection documentation.
- Provide technical mentorship to help develop junior team members.
- Conduct workshop repairs and modifications to component level, with meticulous record-keeping.
- Comply with Cubic’s Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), contractual obligations, and all OHSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) policies.
- Proactively participate in team meetings, offering insights and contributing problem-solving solutions.
- Deputise for the Maintenance Team Leader when required.
- Prepare shift reports, asset upgrade reports, and assist in project-related upgrades as needed.
- Flexible shift working pattern in line with operational requirements.
- Demonstrate commitment to Cubic’s values and all organisational policies, including Code of Conduct, Quality, Security, and ISO compliance.

Requirements
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in a similar maintenance role, preferably within electronic or fibre optic systems.
- Basic fibre optic experience (diagnosis and fault rectification).
- Strong ability to write clear, accurate reports.
- Relevant technical competencies to meet contractual requirements (e.g., adhesions, testing standards).
- Experience with maintenance of modern electronic equipment.
- PC literate, with experience using related software (e.g., maintenance tracking systems).
- Full unrestricted driving licence (with appropriate vehicle categories).
Desirable
- Knowledge of IP-based systems and network infrastructures.
- Experience in managing or supporting teams in a technical role.
- Familiarity with CCTV systems.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word).

Education & Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified to ONC, BTEC or RQF Level 2/3 in:
- Electronic Engineering
- Telecommunications Engineering
- Equivalent recognised qualification
Desirable
- Qualified in:
- C&G 2391-52 Inspection & Testing
- C&G 3667-02, units 102/103 (Fibre Optic Cabling & Testing)
- Conservatory Rail (NHSV8) accreditation or equivalent.
- Possession of a Gouge 39 (temporary car permit, essential for some network access).
- Safety & compliance qualifications, including:
- IPAF (Aerial Work Platform)
- ASLEC Accredited Vehicle Equipment Operators
- NSRWA (Non-Road Traffic) Units 1-9 (SEWERS, Indoor, & Surface Topics)
