ITSX Platform Engineer – Barclaycard Payments (London)
Purpose of the Role
To build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms to ensure the infrastructure is:
- Reliable
- Scalable
- Secure
Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of systems, platforms, and technology through: ✔ Software engineering techniques ✔ Automation ✔ Best practices in incident response
Key Accountabilities
Build Engineering
Develop, deliver, and maintain high-quality infrastructure solutions to meet business requirements, ensuring:
- Measurable reliability
- Performance optimisation

- Ease of use
Identify and justify the appropriate technologies and solutions to support: ✔ Business objectives ✔ Optimisation needs ✔ Resource efficiency
Incident Management
Monitor IT infrastructure and system performance to: ✔ Measure and identify issues, vulnerabilities, or outages ✔ Address potential risks proactively ✔ Reduce Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) using data-driven insights
Automation
Develop and implement automated tasks and processes to: ✔ Improve efficiency ✔ Minimise manual intervention ✔ Utilise software scripting/coding disciplines
Security
Implement secure configuration and protective measures to safeguard infrastructure against: ✔ Cyber-attacks ✔ Vulnerabilities ✔ Unauthorised access (hardware, software, and data)
Team Collaboration
Work cross-functionally with:
- Product managers
- Architects
- Engineering teams
To: ✔ Define IT infrastructure requirements ✔ Devise scalable solutions ✔ Ensure seamless integration with business objectives
Learning & Innovation

Barclaycard Payments: ITSM Platform Engineer
Hands-on, transformational role focused on designing and evolving the ITSM platform to enable: ✅ Risk-based change control ✅ CI/CD-led engineering ✅ Modern, agile IT operations
Core Responsibilities
- Engineer workflows in Jira Service Management to:
- Automate changes, incidents, requests, and CMDB/service mapping
- Integrate with monitoring, CI/CD, and observability platforms
- Shift change control from manual governance to policy-driven, platform-enabled guardrails, balancing speed, accountability, and regulatory compliance
- Drive adoption of AI/ML-driven AI Ops in ITSM processes

Required Experience
To excel in this role, candidates must have: 🔸 Hands-on ITIL/ServiceNow experience (or equivalent ITSM tooling) 🔸 Proven ability to design, configure, and scale ITSM workflows (incident, change, request, CMDB) 🔸 Integration expertise with:
- Monitoring systems
- CI/CD pipelines
- Observability tools
Preferred (but not mandatory)
✔ Automation via scripting/workflow orchestration ✔ Platform engineering/DevOps practices ✔ Data modelling (CMDB) and modern service architecture
Assessment
Candidates will be evaluated on:
- Core technical skills (ICT, risk, controls, strategising)
- Domain knowledge ( muda-shaman change management, business acumen)
Work Environment & Expectations
- Location: London-based role (office at 1 Churchill Place or 7 Westferry Circus).
- Hybrid model: 3 in-office days per week (remaining remote).
- On-call rotations: Weekend/evening shifts may be occasionally required.
