Nursing Team Lead | Intensive Care | ITU | Private Hospital
Role: Nursing Team Lead | Location: Spire St Anthony’s Hospital, Sutton Contract: Full Time (7-day rota)
Spire St Anthony’s Hospital seeks an experienced ICU Team Lead to join our dedicated Intensive Care team, caring for level 2/3 patients. Our multispecialty unit and collaboration with leading consultants provide unparalleled learning and development opportunities.

About the Role
As Team Lead for the ITU, you’ll oversee a dynamic ward team and deliver exceptional patient care across the specialties of cardio-thoracic, orthopaedic, general surgery, andLevel 2/3 critical therapies. You will:
- Lead and coordinate daily operations while supporting nurses, HCAs, and the ITU Manager.
- Ensure safe, high-quality, person-centred care for complex, critical patients.
- Continually assess and update patient health needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Work alongside a multi-disciplinary team to implement and review care plans.
- Maintain accurate communication and documentation at all levels.
Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership:
- Develop and guide safe, patient-centred care delivery for Level 2/3 ITU patients.
- Uphold staff supervision and support to ensure competence and high standards.

Patient Care:
- Assessment & Monitoring: Regularly reassess patient stability, interventions, and clinical needs.
- Specialty Coverage: Provide post-operative support for patients with cardio-thoracic, orthopaedic, and general surgery backgrounds.
- Speciality Trust protocols: Ensure safety and care align with ITU expertise and standards.

Governance & Compliance:
- Managing sensitive data, ethical decision-making, and confidentiality.
- Contributing to training and clinical aid provision for junior team members (e.g., newly qualified nurses, students).

Coordination & Teams:
- Correlate care with physician/consultant directives and the multidisciplinary community (e.g., physiotherapists, pharmacists).
- Support the ITU Nurse Manager’s operational goals and staff supervision.
Requirements
Core Skills & Experience:
- Nursing & Registration: Successfully NMC registered with no restrictions in practice.
- Speciality Experience (Mandatory):
- Essential: 3+ years medical-nurse experience in Intensive Care (Level 2/3).
- Essential: ITU nurse certificate (e.g., NFICLU, Nursing Today’s ITU courses).
- Leadership Experience: Previous senior team-lead appointments (charge nurse, shift manager, etc.), able to delegate effectively.
- Clinical Skills:
- Strong understanding of ICU protocols and critical care physiology (e.g., advanced life support, ITU pharmacology, monitoring).
Desirable:
- Additional certification or cardiac ITU experience (e.g., CCU, post-op speciality).
- Background in a teaching or clinical educator role.
Attributes:
- Communication: Outstanding ability to liaise effectively with consultants, junior staff, and patients’ families.
- Patient-Centred Care: Empathy towards critical, unstable, or long-stay patients
- Team Orientation: Embeds emotional intelligence and calming presence under pressure.
