About the Role

As a Software Engineer (informally referred to as Java Engineer), you’ll contribute to building world-class software by upholding consistent development practices, leveraging tools, standardised components, and thorough documentation. Your work will focus on designing, developing, troubleshooting, debugging, evaluating, modifying, deploying, and documenting software systems that fulfil the needs of:

  • Customer-facing applications
  • Business applications
  • Internal end-user applications

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing distributed enterprise-grade software to meet client quality standards
  • Participating in code reviews, testing, and quality assurance
  • Debugging software components to identify defects and facilitate remediation
  • Supporting software deployment, monitoring, and maintenance across environments—from test to production
  • Automating deployments in test and production environments
  • Optimising application scalability based on demand projections

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Up to 5 years of professional software development experience, or equivalent industry experience
  • University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent field

Technical Skills & Knowledge

🔴 Mandatory Requirements

  • Java 8+ expertise with preference for Java 11/17
  • Strong proficiency in Spring Boot for service development
  • Kafka experience including integration knowledge
  • SQL & NoSQL database expertise:
    • Oracle, PostgreSQL
    • Couchbase, Cassandra (or similar NoSQL databases)
  • Basic DevOps awareness:
    • Jenkins (for deployments)
    • Logging & observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Kibana, Grafana)
    • Version control (GitHub)
  • Microservices knowledge: Experience in designing and managing microservice-based applications
  • Experience with RESTful/non-blocking APIs

🟡 Nice-to-Have (but not mandatory)

  • 1+ years working in GoLang (Golang)
  • Experience with reactive programming frameworks like Vert.x
  • Testing frameworks:
    • Cucumber (Behaviour-Driven Development)
    • JMeter (performance testing)
  • Ability to develop & manage high-transaction systems (>10k+ TPS)
  • Caching mechanisms (Redis, Memcached etc.)
  • Agile project experience in fast-paced environments
  • Cloud/Infrastructure knowledge (AWS/Azure/GCP familiarity)
  • Event-driven microservices architecture (distributed systems)
  • Unit & integration testing with frameworks such as:
    • JUnit, Selenium, Mockito
    • Test-Driven Development (TDD) within application development
  • DevOps & CI/CD tools:
    • CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins)
    • IDEs (IntelliJ, Red Hat, JBoss)
    • Version control (Git, GitLab, Bitbucket)
