About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Java Developer to join a high-performing engineering team on a 12-month contract basis. This role is based in Newcastle, UK, with a hybrid work model that combines remote and on-site work. As a Java Developer, you will be instrumental in modernizing enterprise platforms by designing, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable microservices architectures. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including cloud, infrastructure, and QA, to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business needs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to large-scale modernization projects, leveraging cutting-edge cloud and microservices technologies within an Agile environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with proven experience in Java development. Candidates should have hands-on experience with Java (JDK 11+), Spring Boot, and building microservices architectures. Familiarity with AWS cloud services and enterprise middleware such as WebLogic Server or CAS SDK is essential. Additionally, candidates should have knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Agile methodologies. A background working in large enterprise environments and exposure to containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes will be advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team are critical for success in this role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
