Java developer

Java Developer - Contract

Location London (Hybrid). Preference for 2-3 office days per week

Duration 6 months (with potential to extend)

Contract Start Date ASAP (note: client onboarding takes 4-6 weeks from offer)

Day Rate Competitive (inside IR35)


About the Role Join Deloitte’s Associate (Contractor) Programme, where you’ll have the flexibility to work across diverse industry and client projects. With our Talent Community Advisors, you’ll get early visibility into potential extensions within Deloitte should your contract end.

As a Java Developer, you’ll contribute to the Technology and Transformation Team, collaborating with a global financial services client to deliver robust server-side Java solutions—with a specific focus on FX (Foreign Exchange) systems in financial services.


Essential Requirements

  • Advanced Java experience with proven roots in server-side development
  • FX (Foreign Exchange) or algorithmic trading expertise (preferably in pricing/strategies) in any asset class
  • Full tech stack knowledge: Java, Linux, and networking
  • Full SDLC proficiency: Experience with Git, Jenkins, Ansible, and similar tools
  • Strong programming skills: Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, design patterns, multi-threading
  • 3rd line production support experience (problem diagnosis, system stability)
  • Degree in: Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, or an analytical field
  • Exceptional communication abilities to liaise with technical leads, quantitative strategies teams, and trading desks
  • Team player mindset with collaborative problem-solving habits

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable, high-performance JVM/Java solutions for algorithmic trading platforms
  • Optimise Linux systems and networks to ensure seamless end-to-end trading system performance
  • Provide 3rd line production support to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical failures
  • Collaborate with Quantitative Strategies teams and trading desks to align technical needs with business goals
  • Drive the full SDLC (e.g., Git versioning, Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, Ansible automations)
  • Translate technical hurdles and updates into clear reports for management and stakeholders
