FX Java Developer
Bonhill Partners | United Kingdom (Remote)
Salary: £125,000–£170,000 per annum (depending on experience), with flexibility for exceptional candidates.
About the Role
We're partnering with an award-winning provider of foreign exchange (FX) trading technology to grow their engineering team. As a Java Developer, you'll play an integral role in developing, maintaining, and enhancing high-performance, real-time trading applications used by leading financial institutions worldwide.
This is an opportunity to work on sophisticated, low-latency systems where performance, reliability, and scalability are critical. You'll collaborate with a talented team of engineers to deliver new functionality, optimise existing applications, and solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Develop and enhance real-time FX trading applications using Core Java
- Design and implement new features based on functional and technical requirements
- Write and maintain unit tests to ensure high-quality, reliable code
- Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve production issues
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimisations to improve system efficiency
- Work closely with the wider engineering team to continuously improve the platform

What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of professional Java development experience
- Strong Core Java (Java SE) development skills
- Smart Order Routing (SOR)
- Strong Order Management System experience (OMS)
- Solid understanding of multithreading, concurrency, locking, collections, and performance optimisation
- Experience writing efficient, low-level Java code with a focus on minimising garbage collection
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline

Desirable Experience
- Experience within electronic trading or capital markets would be highly advantageous, including exposure to:
- FIX Protocol connectivity
- Trading venue integrations
- Automated trading systems
- Foreign Exchange (FX) trading technology
