About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer specializing in Java and back-end development to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal as we transition our software development from an outsourced model to an in-house operation. The successful candidate will work closely with the existing development team to facilitate knowledge transfer, understand current architecture, and contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of our core applications. The role offers a hybrid work model, requiring presence in the office two days per week, providing flexibility while fostering team collaboration. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining back-end features, APIs, and database schemas, ensuring high performance, scalability, and security of our applications.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Java development, with extensive experience in building and maintaining scalable back-end systems. Proven expertise in working with PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and migration tools such as Flyway or Liquibase, is essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of RESTful and GraphQL API design, with experience in documenting APIs using OpenAPI/Swagger. Familiarity with modern build tools like Maven or Gradle and a good grasp of software design principles such as SOLID, DRY, and Clean Architecture are required. Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes from a developer perspective is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills, the ability to collaborate effectively, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are critical for success in this role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
