Java Lead Software Engineer
Lead Software Engineer – CIB – Markets Technology, JPMorgan Chase
As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the CIB – Markets Technology, you’ll play a critical role alongside an agile team to develop and deliver trusted, high-performance technology solutions in a secure, stable, and scalable manner. You’re a core technical contributor, responsible for solving complex problems and driving strategic technology solutions aligned with business objectives across multiple business functions.
Job Responsibilities
- Execute creative software solutions, including design, development, and technical troubleshooting, using innovative approaches to solve challenges outside standard frameworks.
- Develop secure, high-quality production code, and conduct rigorous code reviews and debugging for both your own work and others.
- Champion adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to:
- Improve code quality, delivery efficiency, and operational outcomes
- Implement AI-assisted code review, refactoring, test acceleration, root-cause analysis
- Standardise secure coding, peer review, and automated testing methodologies
- Promote reusable best practices and effective patterns
- Leverage SDLC toolchain expertise (including AI-driven automation) to maximise productivity and automation impact.
- Identify recurring systemic issues and drive automation strategies to enhance application stability, resiliency, and operational reliability.
- Lead vendor and internal stakeholder evaluation sessions, assessing architectural designs, technical credibility, and system integration impacts.
- Act as a thought leader in Software Engineering communities, driving adoption of **decision-makers' recommended **emerging technologies.
- Foster a diverse, inclusive, and opportunity-rich culture, ensuring high expectations and respect in all team interactions.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities & Skills
Technical Proficiency
- Degree or formal certification in software engineering or equivalent applied experience.
- Hands-on expertise in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Advanced command of one or more programming languages (e.g., Java).
- Proficiency in end-to-end Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, with deep knowledge of:
- CI/CD pipelines
- Application Resiliency strategies
- Security best practices
- Strong experience leading adoption of AI-assisted development alternatives (coding, debugging, testing, incident resolution), including:
- Setting AI output validation standards (correctness, performance, security)
- Mitigating risks related to AI-generated solutions
- In-depth knowledge of AI’s role in secure engineering, including:
- Observance of responsible AI practices
- Secure handling of data sensitivity in inputs/outputs
- Practical, hands-on experience with cloud-native development at scale.
- Financial services industry expertise regarding IT infrastructure and systems.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Ability to initiate and mentor teams toward technical excellence.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities & Skills
- Experience with cutting-edge technologies and cutting-edge solutions.
- Strong communication and collaborative skills; proven ability to mentor junior engineers.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and financial industry risk management.
- Proven performance in global, cross-functional team environments.
- Enthusiasm for continuous learning and innovation, and a track record of influencing technology strategies.
