This Software Engineer III role (Director-level) is part of the team responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that drive business success.

What You’ll Be Doing

Core Responsibilities

  • Contribute to operational activities and projects to understand business operations comprehensively
  • Co-design, develop, and test software applications, ensuring alignment with business needs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to:
    • Refine requirements
    • Deliver on software projects
    • Fostern a culture of continual improvement
  • Participate in all software development phases:
    • Troubleshooting and debugging
    • Optimising performance and scalability
  • Apply expert-level software development methodologies (agile, DevOps, CI/CD)
  • Lead and contribute to:
    • Code reviews (peer feedback to elevate quality)
    • Technical documentation (specifications, architectural diagrams)
  • Lead excellence in:
    • Documentation (system setup, release notes, etc.)
    • Code quality & maintainability
  • Embrace ongoing learning, such as:
    • Upskilling in emerging tech
    • Knowledge-sharing sessions
  • Advocate and implement best practices in observability, monitoring, and reliability engineering

Key Tasks & Accountabilities

  • Own software solutions end-to-end, from conception to deployment.
  • Influence the direction of technology teams to align with broader business goals.
  • Assemble and mentor teams on best practices, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Scalably assist non-technical stakeholders in understanding system capabilities and constraints.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven that you’re ideal for starting as a Director through expert-level experience:
    • 5+ years in a relevant role involving Java core/EE alongside one or more of these technologies: Spring, Struts, EJB, JMX, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in:
    • Computer Science
    • Software Engineering
    • Engineering, or a highly technical discipline
  • Strong grasp of factual and technical financial context to:
    • Advise accurate solutions (e.g., securities markets, trading, or other capital markets domain)
  • Java/Java EE Advanced: Experience building backends and integrating frontends.
  • Web Services: Knowledge of RESTful APIs, SOAP, WSDL, XSD, XML.
  • Database Proficiency: SQL proficiency + ER diagrams, data modeling, query optimization.
  • Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA): Proven capacity to design and manage systems spanning microservices, APIs and event-driven protocols.
  • Testing and QA: Experience with automated testing frameworks (Junit, Mockito, PowerMock or BDD frameworks like Cucumber).

  • Experience with Unix/Linux (Shell Scripting, OS, permissions)
  • Advanced understanding of:
    • Design patterns/principles, object-oriented architecture
    • Applying code reviews and mentoring
  • Knowledge of system/solution integration (e.g., setting up pipelines, connector apps)
  • DevOps practices: CI/CD, agile delivery with Atlassian stack, etc.
  • Willingness to engage with stakeholder feedback and expects to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
