Java Software Engineer
Java Developer – London/Glasgow, UK
Permanent, Provided Visa Sponsorship
About the Role
You will be working within a global Agile squad responsible for developing transaction reporting systems with robust controls to ensure timeliness and accuracy of reported data. This enables clients to manage their risk effectively.
The role offers opportunities to:
- Work across all phases of the production development lifecycle (from gathering requirements with Operations Users to implementation).
- Grow and learn in both technical areas (such as AWS/Azure migration, cloud modernization, and big data management) and domain expertise (financial regulations and financial product knowledge).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance platform functionality, scaling solutions as needed.
- Write clean, high-quality code following best practices in software design.
- Contribute to platform maintenance, including sharing support responsibilities within the team.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn domain fundamentals and translate calculation logic for stakeholders.

Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- Proficiency in Java 8 (key requirements).
- Experience with:
- Kafka
- Collections framework
- Multi-threading
- Basic knowledge of:
- Databases (e.g., SQL, with preference for non-relational/FNoSQL)
- Operating Systems (e.g., UNIX) and computer networking
- Understanding of:
- Common search and sorting algorithms
- Basic data structures (e.g., lists, maps, trees, trees, and graphs)
- Problem-solving methodologies
Soft Skills & Attitude
- Strong self-starter mentality.
- Confident personality with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to minimally supervisor single-handedly with exposure to minimal supervision/handholding.
- Strong written and verbal English skills to collaborate with users and fellow developers.

Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical field (preferably computer science or related disciplines).
