Java Software Engineer - TWE46018

Principal Risk Datastore Engineer Financial Services 6 Months+ Contract Inside IR35 - likely to extend Hybrid - Central London

My client, a leading Financial Services organisation, is seeking a Principal Risk Datastore Engineer to join their Risk Technology function on a contract basis, working on mission-critical margin and risk calculation platforms in a highly regulated, controlled environment.

In this role, you will provide hands-on technical leadership shaping the Risk Datastore capability, initially focused on market data and historical time-series used by daily risk calculations and downstream analytics.

Key Responsibilities: Provide hands-on technical leadership as a Principal Engineer across the full SDLC Design and build robust batch-oriented data processing services focused on correctness, determinism, and operational resilience Build traceability and auditability into the platform, enabling transparent reconstruction of outputs from underlying inputs and configuration Define governance around user-driven configuration and controlled change, including validation, approvals, and safe reprocessing Establish data persistence and publishing patterns for downstream consumers (operational stores, data lake / warehouse platforms) Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and DevOps teams; support production operations as required (including rota)

Key Skills Required: Strong server-side Java (Java 11+, ideally Java 17+) using Spring / Spring Boot (essential) Experience building data-intensive, batch-oriented platforms, including market data and time-series processing (essential) Data persistence and publishing experience: durable, queryable stores and curated dataset publishing (e.g. S3, Snowflake or equivalent), including schema evolution and retention Comfortable operating in a regulated environment with disciplined SDLC and change control Strong communicator able to influence technical decisions, set direction, and unblock delivery Nice to have: provenance/explainability for critical datasets, exposure to derivatives/market data quality patterns, AWS, Terraform/Ansible, Kafka/JMS messaging
