Job Title: Jig Bore Operator
Work Schedule: Onsite – Wolverhampton, GBR
We are seeking an experienced Jig Bore Operator to set up, operate, and maintain precision jig boring machines to produce high-tolerance components for tooling, fixtures, gauges, and precision engineering applications. The successful candidate will have proven experience operating DeVlieg and Genevoise jig boring machines, interpreting engineering drawings, and working to exacting quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate DeVlieg and Genevoise jig boring machines to manufacture precision components.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and geometric tolerances.
- Accurately position, align, and secure workpieces using appropriate tooling and fixtures.
- Perform precision boring, drilling, reaming, and milling operations to tight tolerances.
- Conduct first-off and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment.
- Verify dimensions using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Make manual machine adjustments to achieve required tolerance and surface finishes.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with company health and safety procedures.
- Carry out routine machine maintenance and report any defects or issues.
- Work collaboratively with machinists, quality, and engineering teams.
- Ensure completed work meets customer and company quality standards.
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records.

Required Experience & Skills
- Proven experience operating DeVlieg and Genevoise jig boring machines.
- Strong background in precision machining, toolmaking, or manufacturing environments.
- Ability to work to tight tolerances.
- Excellent understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and machining processes.
- Competent in the use of precision inspection and measuring equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Workshop-based role.
- May involve standing for extended periods and handling heavy components using lifting equipment.
- Overtime may be required to meet production schedules.
- Reliable and self-motivated.
- Flexible approach to workload and production priorities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable Qualifications
- Apprenticeship or recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Toolmaking, Precision Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience within aerospace, automotive, defence, or precision tooling industries.
- Overhead crane and lifting equipment experience.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and continuous improvement processes.

Preferred Experience
- Aerospace tooling manufacture and repair.
- Working within AS9100 quality systems.
- Experience supporting aerospace, defence, or high-precision engineering sectors.
- Crane and lifting equipment certification.
- Experience with manual milling, grinding, and other toolroom machinery.
Reports To: Team Leader / Manufacturing Manager
