Joiner / Carpenter (Permanent Position) – Bridgwater Hire & Service Centre

Application Deadline: 3 July 2026 Department: Bridgwater Hire And Service Centre Employment Type: Permanent Location: Highbridge, TA9 4PW (based at Bridgwater Hire And Service Centre) Reports To: Giles Bailey Compensation: £16.56 per hour + up to £4.73 merit bonus, plus potential for overtime


About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Joiner / Carpenter to join our fit-out team in Highbridge. In this permanent role, you will contribute to the design, refurbishment, and installation of buildings, ensuring work is completed safely, to high standards, and within tight deadlines.

Working Hours: Monday–Thursday (7:45 AM – 4:30 PM), Friday (7:45 AM – 3:30 PM).


Key Responsibilities

As a Joiner/Carpenter, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining a safe, compliant, and organised working environment in line with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Performing refurbishment, fit-out, and construction tasks according to technical specifications, company SOPs, RAMS, and quality standards.
  • Applying expertise and problem-solving skills to complete work independently, where possible, while escalating unresolved issues to ensure progress.
  • Adhering to deadlines and budgets to support cost-effective and efficient project delivery.
  • Collaborating with team members to assist with tasks beyond your primary trade when necessary.

Requirements

Essential:

✔ A recognised trade qualification – preferably Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery or equivalent. ✔ Hands-on trade experience with a focus on Site, Yard, Refurbishment & Fit-Out work, including adherence to safe working systems. ✔ The ability to interpret technical documentation, such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Risk Assessments (RAMS), and Method Statements. ✔ Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a track record of independent, high-quality work. ✔ Strong understanding of health and safety legislation in construction.

Desired:

✅ Experience in prefabricated construction methods or modern methods of construction (MMC). ✅ Knowledge of sustainable building practices. ✅ Completion of additional safety certifications (e.g., CSCS card).
