Junior Analyst – Ecosystem Insights Team
Location: Harwell-based (up to 2/3 days remote) + UK-wide travel as required
About the Role
The Satellite Applications Catapult empowers UK space businesses through tailored research and analysis. This Junior Analyst role supports evidence-based decision-making by delivering data-led insights and strategic recommendations.
You’ll work collaboratively, leveraging analytical skills to build actionable tools and reports that drive the UK space sector forward—and potentially travel for in-person meetings across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management & Quality Assurance
- Maintain and optimise one or more industrial, academic, or infrastructure databases.
- Ensure data accuracy, classification, and security by:
- Validating data entries
- Identifying errors, inconsistencies, duplicates, and gaps
- Implementing processes for UK Space Sector growth mapping
- Collaborate on quality assurance and training for teams
Data Analysis & Insights
- Conduct structured quantitative/qualitative analysis using agreed methodologies
- Support market trend research, survey analysis, and ecosystem mapping
- Identify patterns, strengths, gaps, and opportunities in the UK space ecosystem
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, visual tools, and data summaries (Excel/SQL)
- Provide key insights via visual and written reports using statistical/economic modelling
- Tailor technical insights for internal and external stakeholders (Mission Leads, Business Development, International teams, etc.)
- Example: Flag trends that signal new opportunities for innovation

Stakeholder & Process Support
- Respond to urgent insight/data requests from stakeholders
- Stay current on tools, techniques, and best practices in data analysis
- Improve processes for data collection, validation, classification, and reporting
- Offer training/support on data analysis tools and methodologies
Skills & Experience
Essential
- SC-level security clearance eligibility (mandatory)
- Strong inquisitive mindset with proven research skills or academic enthusiasm
- Ability to:
- Analyse large datasets (quantitative/qualitative) with precision
- Clean, structure, and interpret data for meaningful conclusions
- Identify data errors, trends, and gaps methodically
- Work accurately and to deadlines with minimal supervision
- Practical experience with:
- Dashboards, reports, or visualisations (e.g., Power BI, Excel)
- Database tools (e.g., MS Dynamics, SQL)
- Numerate and methodical with excellent writing skills
- Strong computer literacy (MS Office proficiency)
Desirable
- Background in: business administration, economics, data analysis, or market research
- Experience with: Power BI, Microsoft Dynamics, survey platforms
- Insights into innovation, regional development, supply chains, or the UK Space Sector
