Junior Analyst

Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled and motivated Junior Analyst to join a young, growing climate non-profit. In this role, you will work with the Data and Analysis team across a number of projects, with a specific focus on the SteelWatch Corporate Scorecard and Steelmaker Transformation Tracker. You will join an international team across countries that are nimble, collaborative, and hugely ambitious in the task of influencing the steel sector, which drives 7% of annual greenhouse gas emissions.

About the Organisation

SteelWatch is an international non-profit civil society organisation established in June 2023, driving corporate accountability in the steel sector and urgent climate action. Our vision is to achieve a steel sector that underpins a thriving zero-emissions economy.

We run corporate campaigns, challenging the global steel industry to replace complacency with urgent action aligned with science-based pathways. SteelWatch has gained visibility in both civil society and the steel industry, recognised as an authoritative and challenging voice on steel decarbonisation. We actively engage in global industry events and debates.

About the Role

The Junior Analyst is responsible for analysing the status of the steel sector and decarbonisation trends, while gathering and maintaining data across the organisation. The role functions as a vital team member, providing crucial support to the Data and Analysis Team to help the team operate optimally.

We seek a motivated candidate with high ambition and growth potential who is eager to learn from sector leaders. This role reports directly to the SteelWatch Steel Analyst.

You will be embedded within the Data and Analysis Team and will support various ongoing projects, partnering closely with campaigners and communications teams. These efforts will enhance our ability to use reliable data effectively in campaigning activities and narrative crafting.

A significant portion of your work (roughly 50% of it) will focus on the second edition of the:

  • Corporate Scorecard
  • Steelmaker Transformation Tracker

Additionally, you will provide support for other projects, conduct overall steel industry analysis, and contribute to improving the data management infrastructure of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Tracker and Scorecard Projects (50%)

  • Collect and interpret data on international steelmakers for the Tracker and Scorecard.
  • Manage data and data systems underlying these projects.
  • Conduct analysis to identify key findings and interpretation of gathered data.
  • Support the Scorecard team in production, launch, and dissemination activities for both the Tracker and Scorecard.

Other Project Work (50%)

  • Analyse data on steel and emissions through various projects.
  • Collaborate on ethylacetone and stakeholder monitoring to enhance data accuracy derived from:
    • GEM Global Iron and Steel Tracker
    • Agora Transition Tracker
    • IEA updates
  • Support research and data-driven campaign initiatives aimed at bolstering our corporate campaigns.
  • Work with Data and Analysis team members to provide insights on industry trends and examine key messages.
    • Monitor latest announcements from steelmakers and trade associations.
    • Assess whether industry advancements represent genuine progress or deceptive misleads in decarbonisation.
  • Maintain internal data management systems to ensure data is accurate, well-stored, and accessible.
  • Provide ad hoc support to team requests where needed.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
