Junior Assistant Accountant

Junior Assistant Accountant – Mansfield, UK

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Finance Assistant / Junior Assistant Accountant to join our finance team at our Mansfield site.

Location: Mansfield, UK Position type: Full-time, Permanent Working Hours: 09:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday

Role Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the start of their finance career to join a busy, supportive, and collaborative finance function. In this role, you will support the finance team with a range of day-to-day accounting tasks while gaining hands-on experience and developing your skills. You will work closely with Management Accountants and other team members, assisting with routine processes such as data entry, reconciliations, and basic reporting. This position is ideal for someone who is looking to begin or is in the early stages of studying towards an accounting qualification (e.g., AAT) and is eager to build practical experience in a fast-paced business. Full training and ongoing support will be provided to help you grow and progress within the role.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of the monthly management accounts process
  • Support month-end close activities to ensure deadlines are met
  • Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments, and other adjustments
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations across all areas and investigate discrepancies
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
  • Assist with the production of monthly reporting packs and KPI reporting
  • Assist with the preparation of VAT / TSS submissions
  • Carry out daily bank postings and bank reconciliations
  • Support Management Accountants and the wider finance team during month-end and reporting cycles
  • Provide ad-hoc financial support and analysis as required

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a finance or accounts environment
  • Experience working with accounting systems and ERP systems, such as Access Financials or Dimensions (preferred but not essential)
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in finance/accounting
  • Good understanding of month-end accounting processes
  • Studying towards (or willing to start) AAT Level 2 or 3
  • Good attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Positive attitude and a proactive approach to work
