Junior Associate (NQ-2 PQE)
Department: Tax
Location: London
The Team:
We have a market-leading tax team that consistently advises on some of the most complex and high-profile corporate and real estate transactions, alongside a broad range of specialist areas including asset finance (with particular focus on aircraft and ship transactions), cross-border tax and financing arrangements, international trade, customs duties and import VAT, employment taxation and incentives, and tax disputes, investigations and appeals for multinationals, owner-managed businesses and high-net-worth individuals. The team also regularly supports major insurance underwriters, brokers and agents on a wide range of business-critical tax matters.
Our senior leadership comprises highly regarded tax experts, all of whom bring significant personal standing in the market, having been recognised in leading directories such as Chambers and Legal 500, with one member also serving as a part-time Tax Tribunal judge. We provide specialist tax advice to both domestic and international organisations, leveraging our global office network to ensure guidance reflects local legislation and practice. Working closely with clients' corporate, commercial, in-house tax and finance teams, we focus on minimising tax exposure while maximising available reliefs. As a leading law firm in the insurance sector, our tax team combines deep industry insight with technical excellence, advising on areas such as VAT and IPT, cross-border structuring, the establishment of UK insurance businesses, M&A transactions, tax W&I insurance, and professional indemnity matters for both insurers and insureds.
Key Responsibilities:
- To support the three tax partners with their wide range of work described above.
- To work closely with the existing tax associates and to help supervise the Tax Team trainee.
- As a junior associate/Associate you would be expected to work with all three partners and initially would not "specialise" in any particular field of taxation.
- "Bread and butter" work would generally be mid-market M&A, real estate transactions, VAT, and employment taxation.
- Assist with internal and external profile raising/marketing, including delivering internal training talks to different departments within the firm and helping to write tax bulletins/updates.
- Assist and partake in regular tax-know-how training sessions including helping to prepare and deliver our monthly Tax Case Update sessions, and the regular Finance Bill update sessions.
- Assist the tax, corporate and real estate partners with pitches to new clients or few new mandates.
- Attend marketing/business development events.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
