Junior Associate / Associate - Volume Claims (Motor)
Location: Birmingham
Team: Volume Claims - Motor
The Role
We are seeking a Junior Associate / Associate to join our Birmingham-based Volume Claims team, specialising in motor claims with a strong emphasis on credit hire litigation and dispute resolution.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong motor handler looking to progress their career within a leading insurance practice, while also taking on early supervisory responsibilities.
The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of motor claims (predominantly credit hire) and play a key role in supporting and supervising junior colleagues handling lower value claims.
Key Responsibilities
Fee-Earning
- Manage a caseload of defended and pre-litigated motor claims, with a focus on credit hire disputes
- Handle claims from inception through to settlement, including litigation where appropriate
- Apply strong technical expertise to quantum challenges, liability disputes, and fraud indicators
- Draft pleadings, witness statements, and advise clients on strategy and risk
- Deliver commercially focused and pragmatic advice to insurer clients
Supervision & Team Support
- Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to paralegals and junior handlers dealing with low-value motor claims
- Review work, provide feedback, and support development of team members
- Assist with training, coaching, and process improvement initiatives
- Act as a point of escalation for technical queries within the team
Client & Operational Delivery
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key insurer clients
- Ensure compliance with client SLAs, KPIs, and reporting requirements
- Contribute to process efficiency and continuous improvement within the volume claims environment
- Support management with team performance and workflow oversight

Skills & Experience
- Qualified Solicitor (NQ-3 PQE) or equivalent experience in defendant motor claims
- Strong and demonstrable experience handling credit hire claims
- Proven ability to manage a litigated caseload independently
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members is highly desirable
- Strong technical knowledge of motor claims, indemnity, and quantum issues
- Excellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Commercially aware with a client-focused approach

The Birmingham team plays a key role in handling credit hire and low-value motor work at scale, offering a collaborative and supportive environment with clear progression opportunities.
