About the Role
This position exists to help our consultants turn messy operational information into clear, readable records. In our work with the West Midlands infrastructure group, we often find that teams have plenty of data but lack the clarity needed to make quick decisions. You will support our advisory practice by building the tools that show where priorities are stalling and where responsibility might be unclear. This is not about building complex models for their own sake: it is about creating the smallest possible data record that helps a leadership team stay on track. This role is fully remote, allowing you to focus on producing high quality analysis from your own workspace while staying connected with our team through clear, written documentation.
What You Will Do
- Collect and organize data from various project management and financial systems used by the infrastructure group.
- Create weekly reports that highlight where tasks are falling behind or where ownership is not clearly assigned.
- Clean and validate datasets to ensure the information we present to leadership is accurate and reliable.
- Build simple, clear dashboards using tools like Power BI or Excel that prioritize readability over visual flair.
- Attend internal team meetings to understand which metrics actually matter to the managers on the ground.
- Document the data sources and logic used in your reports so that others can follow your work easily.
- Assist in identifying patterns in how meetings are run and how decisions are recorded across different departments.
- Support the broader consulting team with ad hoc data requests during intense phases of the project.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We Are Looking For
We need someone who values accuracy and has an eye for when something does not look quite right. You should be comfortable working with numbers and have an understanding of how databases are structured. Clear communication is essential: we value people who can explain a data set in plain English without using unnecessary jargon. Since this is an entry level role, we prioritize a willingness to learn our specific way of working and a focused approach to problem solving. You should be able to manage your own time effectively in a remote environment and feel comfortable asking for clarification when a task is ambiguous.
Helpful Background
- Familiarity with data visualization software such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- A strong grasp of Microsoft Excel, including the use of pivot tables and basic formulas.
- Introductory knowledge of SQL for querying databases or an interest in learning it quickly.
- An interest in how large organizations or infrastructure projects operate.
- Experience from an internship, university project, or personal portfolio that demonstrates how you handle data.
- A degree or certificate in a related field like data science, mathematics, economics, or business.
What We Offer
This is a full time, permanent position that is conducted entirely in a remote setting. We provide an environment that favors deep work and clear written communication over endless video calls or corporate theatre. This is a paid role with competitive pay for the current market and your level of experience. You will have the chance to see how high level management decisions are made and how data can be used to make those processes smoother and more transparent.

About Olive Tree
Olive Tree Consulting Group is a focused advisory practice that helps leadership teams solve recurring management issues. We typically work on the space between strategy and daily execution. A team can have very capable people and still find that decisions keep reopening, priorities stall, or responsibility remains unclear. These are rarely personality problems: they are structural habits that have not kept up with the company's growth.
We favor practical changes over large scale transformation programs. Our work involves looking at how decisions are made, how meetings are run, and how ownership is recorded. We prefer useful written notes and clear ownership over polished presentations and vague alignment. Good advisory work should make things plainer and leave the team with a rhythm they can continue on their own.
The firm is built on the principle that memory is not a management system. We help teams create the smallest possible written record to support their work so that important follow up does not depend on who was in the room or who has the best memory. The goal is a quieter management pattern that makes the existing work easier to lead.
