Buying Manager | Mint Velvet
Department: Buying Location: HighWycombe Contract: 4 days per week in office
About Mint Velvet
Mint Velvet began when founders Liz Houghton and Lisa Agar-Rea identified a gap in the market for a chic collection of contemporary, high-quality wardrobe staples and elevated fits. Frustrated by a lack of stylish yet comfortable fashion options and poor customer service, they merged relaxed comfort with glamorous, wearable trends, creating what we now know as Relaxed Glamour.
At the heart of our business, we prioritise:
- Creative depth and authenticity – designing with heart and soul.
- Sustainability and responsibility – from fabric choices to production processes.
- A balanced, high-performance culture – fostering growth, flexibility, and intellectual stimulation.
Our leadership philosophy is rooted in collaboration, resilience, and a commitment to noticing beyond profit. Our values are anchored by three pillars: people, planet, and community.
Our Values
- With Soul – Root every decision in genuine creativity and purpose.
- Courage & Resilience – Embrace challenges, learn openly, and adapt.
- Passion & Drive – Stay energised by innovation and ambition.
- Entrepreneurial Spirit – Own outcomes and seek innovative solutions.
- Collaborative – Support one another across teams and disciplines.
The Role
Core Responsibilities
As part of Mint Velvet’s Buying & Merchandising team, you will:
- Source, develop, and buy a commercially successful product range, ensuring it drives sales and profit.
- Align range development with MV’s premium brand identity and its target (key factors consulted: competitor trends, consumer feedback, market insights).
- Work independently and autonomously on a seasonal product build, balancing creativity with clear ownership of merchandising outcomes.
- Cultivate strong supplier relationships (collaborating, negotiating, and auditing suppliers for quality and sustainability).
- Coordinate critical path management, gymניות & fit sessions, ensuring efficient workflows and timelines.
- Present weekly performance updates to management, breaking down (for buy-process progress, profitability, and delivery risks).
- Lead traffic reports & trade meetings, dissecting insights and guiding strategic decisions alongside your Buyer.
- Adjust trims (e.g., buttons, lining) following execution reviews, secured via sourcing)$.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
