About the Role
Are you looking to kickstart a meaningful career in procurement with a fast-growing, sustainable business? At Gilfresh, we are a proud family-run FMCG company built on three core pillars: People, Planet, and Prosperity. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a proactive, highly organized Junior Buyer to join our commercial team.
This position is the ultimate launchpad for an aspiring procurement professional. Your initial focus will be mastering the critical administrative and coordination tasks that keep our supply chain moving. As you grow, you will gain direct, hands-on experience in active buying, supplier negotiations, and commercial strategy within the fast-paced fresh produce sector.
Your Key Responsibilities
You will work collaboratively across our three organizational pillars to ensure business continuity and efficiency:
- People & Administration: Provide comprehensive administrative support to Senior Buyers. You will manage the day-to-day coordination of procurement tasks, utilize our ERP system to accurately generate Purchase Orders (POs), and maintain exceptional working relationships with internal teams (Sales, Technical, Operations) as well as external growers and suppliers.
- Planet & Sustainability: Directly support our environmental goals. You will assist in gathering and analyzing supplier data to ensure ethical sourcing, help optimize transport planning to minimize carbon footprints and waste, and participate in projects driving our circular economy initiatives.
- Prosperity & Commercial Growth: Help monitor supplier performance to protect product quality and margin continuity. You will analyze market data to identify emerging risks or commercial opportunities, support inventory forecasting, and work alongside senior colleagues during contract negotiations to learn the economics of FMCG buying.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
