Junior Civil Design Engineer - 82747
This Junior Civil Design Engineer will report to the Principal Civil Design Engineer and will work within UKPN Services based in our Heathrow office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £56,576 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

Job Purpose
You will deliver civil design technical excellence across UKPN Services portfolio. As the Junior Civil Design Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of Civil specifications, design, build, and through to commissioning process. You will work in the production of high-quality design solutions that comply with relevant legislation and engineering standards. The job holder will provide technical liaison with suppliers, and clients for the creation of new business and the successful delivery of projects.
Nature And Scope
The Engineering Design functions within UKPNS are lead by the Head of Engineering who reports to UKPN Services Director. The design functions within the team are SCADA, Modelling and Network Design, Civil Engineering, CAD and Information Management. All these are interlinked and require coordination to enable the production of feasible designs. As a Junior Civil Design Engineer, you will:
- Work under supervision from a Senior Civil Designer in the team.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Deliver technical excellence that will place UK Power Networks Services in the top tier for design and build of private assets on safety, customer service and efficiency.
- Work closely with structural and electrical engineers, quantity surveyors and CAD engineers.
- Contribute to the resolution of civil engineering issues and provide an understanding of standards and policies.
- Research feasible technological developments in civil / structural engineering to introduce in the designs produced.

The job holder's principal challenges are to produce cost-efficient and technically viable designs, ensuring a smooth process from initial enquiry through the business closure of new assets. The job requires the equivalent of a graduated civil engineer with experience in civil and structural design, preferably on designs associated with electrical substations and power distribution infrastructure.
Principal Accountabilities
- Produce, under supervision, civil and structural designs for tender, construction, and commissioning of electricity network assets, in accordance with the standards, policies and procedures of UK Power Networks Services and to the latest British Standards, ESQCR, the Building Regulations, Fire Safety rules.
- Produce, under supervision, technical, commercial and contractual documents for procurement of engineering products and services.
- Contribute to ensure the designs eliminate or reduce hazards which may give rise to risks.
- Participate in the assessment of the suitability of third-party construction works impacting electricity network assets.
- Provide technical liaison with suppliers and clients for the successful delivery of projects.
Skills, Qualifications And Experience
- Civil Engineering degree.
- Reasonable knowledge of civil engineering and building works within the Utility sector.
- Experience working with AutoDesk suite for civil engineering design (e.g. Revit, Robot, Civil3D).
- Beneficial experience: structural design software, roadworks, drainage, structural steel works, cable routes, substation buildings, structures to support outdoor distribution equipment, fences and high security features, secondary oil containment, building services, ventilation systems, fire suppression systems, drainage systems.
