Junior Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology

Clinical Fellow – Gastroenterology (Fixed Term Contract)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical fellow to strengthen the Gastroenterology service at University Hospital Lewisham (UHL).

About the Role

This fixed-term contract, spanning 18 months, supports the Gastroenterology department while providing valuable training for those aspiring to a career in this field.

The successful post-holder will:

  • Develop broad clinical experience within the department, with dedicated sessions for:
    • Outpatient clinics
    • Flexible opportunities to explore interests such as endoscopy
    • Active involvement in inpatient wards and the research programme
  • Contribute to audit or research projects, with past clinical fellows achieving:
    • First-author publications
    • Presentations at national and international meetings
  • Tailor the role to align with specific professional interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical support in Gastroenterology, including:
    • Delivery of outpatient care via dedicated clinic sessions
    • Active participation in ward rounds, patient assessment, and management
  • Engage with research and audit projects under the unit’s research programme
  • Foster collaboration with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., nurses, junior doctors, specialists)
  • Opportunity to develop expertise in high-priority services—such as endoscopy—based on individual interests and departmental need
