Job Summary
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic resident doctor with experience and interest in General Adult Psychiatry to join our 18 bed acute male inpatient ward at the Maudsley Hospital - Lewis Ward in South London. This is a full-time fixed term contract for 12 months. There are opportunities after this fixed term to explore other available roles in SLaM. If you are looking for an exciting front-line clinical role with opportunities to be involved in service development and incorporating quality improvement methodology to evaluate changes, then this is the ideal post for you.
Main duties of the job
The post-holders will work under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist on the ward, with a Specialty doctor and another SHO-level resident doctor, and the full support of a comprehensive MDT. We welcome applications from residents who may be looking to take a break from training in the near future or from doctors who have completed the Foundation Programme and are looking to get more experience in psychiatry. It is essential that applicants have completed their foundation training and have experience of working in healthcare settings in the UK prior to applying for this post. You will be expected to work from 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. It is not planned that this post will participate in the Southwark resident on-call rota. The essential duty in this role includes day-to-day assessment and management of patients with acute and severe mental illness who have been admitted to the ward. Patients can be admitted informally or under the Mental Health Act.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
The main clinical responsibilities include managing inpatients and the team caseload, attending ward rounds and meetings, conducting risk assessments and care planning, monitoring patients' physical health, liaising with various professionals and external agencies, attending external meetings, making safeguarding referrals, and maintaining clear records in the Trust's electronic system. The post holder will receive supervision, annual appraisal, and support for continuing professional development, with access to study leave and mandatory training requirements.

Qualifications
Essential
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council
- Certificate of completion of Foundation Programme (FY1 and FY2)
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in medical or related spheres
- Training in psychiatry
Experience
Essential
- Experience in post-registration house jobs in the UK
Desirable
- Experience in adult acute inpatient psychiatry
- Experience of working in the NHS
- Previous evidence of an interest in, or a commitment to, Psychiatry
- Research at undergraduate or postgraduate level
- Experience of working with Black and Minority Ethnic population
