Technology Strategy Analyst / Project Manager – Advisory Team

Who We Are
You will join the Advisory team at Cambridge Consultants, a core function providing strategic guidance at the intersection of technology, product innovation, and commercial challenges. This team delivers projects primarily to clients in Defence and Security, as well as Industrial, Energy, and Sustainability sectors.
Your work involves ensuring tailored technical and commercial viability for clients aiming to transform their industries using cutting-edge technology. Success is measured by high-quality, technically robust yet commercially actionable insights, addressing emerging tech implications and informing strategic decisions.

The Advisory team bridges technical innovation with real-world application, helping clients understand how emerging technologies can be operationalised within their business models. Collaborative technologies such as quantum sensing and computing, robotics, physical AI, novel materials, and engineering biology are just some of the areas where your work will have impact.
The Role
As a Technology Strategy Analyst / Project Manager in our Advisory team, you’ll play a dynamic hybrid role concentrated on delivering client engagements while generating actionable insights. This includes end-to-end project leadership and hands-on analytical work to drive client value.
The role sits within Research & Insights, focusing on understanding the near- and long-term future impacts on strategies. While the emphasis is on Defence and Security, project demands may extend to other sectors.

What You Will Be Doing

High-Impact Project Delivery: Work on diverse projects analysing deep tech impact, ranging from questions such as:
- How quantum applications might evolve over 50 years.
- How neuromorphic computing will influence operations research.
- Implications of post-quantum cryptography for critical national infrastructure.
- AI-enabled tools for detecting weak signals in data. Help clients accelerate technology development toward operational impact or commercialisation by:
- Evaluating user/buyer desirability.
- Developing adoption and commercialisation strategies.

Project Leadership:
- Ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of advisory projects.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams for efficient and cohesive execution.
- Proactively identify, manage project risks, and maintain stakeholder confidence.

Market & Insight Analysis:
- Analyse markets, technologies, and business models.
- Build evidence-based recommendations for clients navigating complexity.
- Harmonise technical expertise with real-world adoption challenges.

Collaboration on Business Development:
- Partner with Business Developers to strengthen client relationships.
- Support the development of proposals and bids.

Fostering Thought Leadership:
- Examine how deep tech applies to global challenges, e.g., climate change’s role in the future battlefield.
- Craft compelling narratives for both technical and executive audiences.
What You Will Bring
This role demands a strong blend of analytical, technical, and project management skills, with a sharp focus on translating insights into actionable strategy:

Technical Foundation: A Master’s or PhD in physical sciences, applied mathematics, data science, engineering, or related disciplines, with a forward-thinking perspective on how technologies transition from concepts to commercial/real-world deployment.

Relevant Domain Experience (2–5 years): Prior experience in Defence or Security domains, either within government, consultancy, technology startups, or multilaterals. Ideal candidates will have delivered science & technology (S&T) and R&D-oriented projects.

Project Management (2+ years): Demonstratable expertise in project leadership, including:
- Guiding cross-disciplinary teams.
- Navigating stakeholder expectations and government tendering processes.
- Aligning programme needs with business goals efficiently.

Understanding of Technology Commercialisation: Insight into:
- UK public sector investment considerations.
- Defence innovation pathways.
- User value creation in operational contexts.
- Challenges in scaling technologies across global industrial environments.

Analytical & Creative Thinking: Ability to distil complex technical concepts into actionable commercial strategies, while applying insights across multiple sectors.

- Strong problem-solving mindset.

- Engage confidently with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Lead client-facing discussions, facilitating clear understanding.

Security Clearance Requirement Some projects require a Security Check level clearance, note the requirement here. Successful candidates must meet UK National Law eligibility and be prepared for a UK Government National Security Vetting process.
