Junior Cyber Security Consultant
Junior Cyber Security Consultant – Portsmouth Area
Pay: £31,000–£42,000 per year
About the Role
As a Junior Cyber Security Consultant, you’ll assist clients in addressing a diverse range of cyber security challenges, from defining security policies and strategies to conducting cyber risk assessments and mitigating threats. Your day-to-day work will combine both advisory support and hands-on execution, helping organisations identify, evaluate, and alleviate risks to their information and technology assets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Understanding business and information risk contexts, including cyber security threats and implementation challenges.
- Assessing risk at technical and process levels and communicating findings effectively to stakeholders.
- Evaluating cyber security maturity and developing improvement plans.
- Reviewing security controls against industry frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) and recommending suitable enhancements.
- Researching and analysing security technologies to propose innovative solutions.
- Leading client interviews and threat assessments, including site visits.
- Applied standards, frameworks, and methodologies to create risk assessments and reports.
- Supporting client engagements with proposal development and business opportunity identification.

Required Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Clear ability to present security advice (including technical details) effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Undergraduate degree in Cyber Security (or related field) or equivalent work experience.
- Solids understanding of core cyber security principles (e.g., authentication, encryption, risk management).
- Familiarity with risk management frameworks (applied practically).
- Ability to demonstrate analytical thinking when assessing complex challenges.
Desirable:
- Hands-on experience with security tools (e.g., penetration testing software, log analysis).
- Working knowledge of NIST, ISO 27001, and other frameworks with evidence of applying them.
- Proven ability to adapt to various industries while consulting effectively.
Additional Requirements
- Must be eligible for Security Cleared (UK)—typically requires having lived in the UK for the last five consecutive years.
- Can traverse two or more client sites per week.
- Must register for a DBS check as part of the screening process.
