Role Overview
As a Junior Database Administrator (DBA), this role focuses on supporting day-to-day operations, maintenance, and monitoring of the organisation’s database platforms, ensuring availability, performance, security, and reliability.
Ideal Candidate Background
This position suits individuals early in their DBA career, needing to build strong technical foundations within an enterprise environment while progressing towards a full DBA role with structured learning and hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities
Database Operations & Maintenance
- Develop and monitor daily operations metrics for database infrastructure (performance, health, uptime, efficiency).
- Oversee corporate database infrastructure (MS SQL Server, Oracle).
- Manage Incident Management, Changes, Moves, and Deployments.
- Review Disaster Recovery (DR) & Backup Services, proactively addressing vulnerabilities identified during internal/external audits.

Collaborative & Cross-Team Support
- Work hand-in-hand with vendors, ensuring timely escalations.
- Partner with Design Teams to support project implementations.
- Contribute to cost reduction via cloud adoption strategies.
Incident Resolution & Change Management
- Own resolution of assigned incidents within SLA targets.
- Facilitate smooth change delivery to production environments, minimising disruption.
Monitoring & Documentation
- Actively monitor the database estate for anomalies, resolving issues promptly.
- Update documentation as the organisation evolves.
Compliance & Audit Support
- Ensure Group Legal and Regulatory compliance, participating in audit cycles.
- Address audit findings, driving identified risks to closure while reporting progress.
Requirements
Essential Technical Skills & Experience
- Basic understanding of relational databases, preferably Microsoft SQL Server.
- Familiarity with core concepts (backups, restores, indexing, security).
- Experience in IT Infrastructure roles.
Soft Skills & Competencies
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Handle multiple projects simultaneously with precision.
- Proven stakeholder management skills—effectively communicating technical concepts to non-experts.
Certifications & Clearance
- Relevant certifications, particularly in MS SQL Server (preferred).
- Security clearance (or able to obtain).
- Awareness of ITIL frameworks.

Educational Background
- Degree-level education, ideally in IT/Business-related subjects, paired with practical IT infrastructure experience.
