Job Title: Junior Design Engineer – Solar PV
Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 + Holiday, Pension & Training
Location: Alton, Hampshire
Are you ready to turn your engineering knowledge into a career that makes a genuine difference? If you're passionate about renewable energy and want to build specialist expertise in commercial solar PV and battery storage, this is an opportunity to join an ambitious, fast-growing business where your development is just as important as the projects you help deliver.
Working alongside experienced engineers, designers and project professionals, you'll receive hands-on training while contributing to the design of commercial solar PV installations ranging from 50kW to 4MW. From day one, you'll be supported to develop the technical skills and industry knowledge needed to become a trusted Design Engineer in one of the UK's fastest-growing sectors.
Why this role
This is more than a graduate engineering position. It's an opportunity to build a long-term career in renewable energy, working on commercial solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects that help businesses reduce carbon emissions and improve energy resilience. As your experience grows, you'll take increasing ownership of technical designs from initial concept through to installation and project completion.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
