Junior Estimator

Junior Estimator – Communications Infrastructure Team

Location: Braintree, Essex Type: On-site Benefits: Competitive salary and excellent benefits

Swann Engineering Group invites applications for a Junior Estimator to join their Communications Infrastructure team based on-site in Braintree, Essex. This role offers a fantastic training and career development opportunity for the right candidate.


The Role

As a Junior Estimator, you will generate accurate project costings for a range of engineering and infrastructure projects. This includes:

  • Researching component pricing, obtaining vendor and contractor quotes
  • Assessing time-related costs (design, project management, and installation)
  • Supporting the sales team with proposals and budgeting, from customer specifications to final project costing
  • Presenting cost analyses and recommendations to management

Responsibilities

  • Produce technically accurate quotations based on customer requests, drawings, and project specs.
  • Conduct cost-saving research into supply chain efficiency, fabrication methods, installation processes, or value engineering initiatives.
  • Collaborate with sales teams in client meetings, including delivering technical presentations and participating in engineering/commercial discussions.
  • Work with internal/external resources to compile tender costs while ensuring compliance documentation is complete and up to date.
  • Stay current with industry regulations and legislative requirements.
  • Engage with the supply chain to deliver cost-effective, value-driven solutions for clients.
  • Continuously improve your skills through feedback and lessons learnt from completed projects and tender submissions.

About You

Ideal candidates should bring:

  • A methodical, detail-focused approach to work.
  • Technical drawing knowledge and familiarity with CAD software (advantageous).
  • Experience in structural and architectural steelwork (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Strong analytical and research abilities.
  • Proficiency in Excel spreadsheets and word processing tools.
  • Self-motivation, independence, and initiative.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • Confidence in pitching and securing new contracts.
  • The enthusiasm and organisation to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
