Junior Hardware Engineer – Radar Sensor Development

Location: New Malden, UK Employment Type: Permanent

Role Overview

Sperry Marine are a global leader in marine navigation systems, specialising in integrated technical solutions for the commercial and naval markets. Headquartered in the UK with operations spanning Europe, the Americas, and Asia, the company employs nearly 400 people across ten countries.

We are seeking a Junior Hardware Engineer to join our Engineering Department and become part of the radar sensor development team, focusing on electronics development for maritime navigation systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Hardware team to support:
    • Development of new and existing electronic designs, including PCB layouts
    • Improvements to current products and obsolescence-driven changes
  • Assist in Type Approval Testing, interpreting test plans and liasing with internal/external test houses where applicable
  • Execute hands-on project work, including:
    • Assembling cable harnesses
    • PCB soldering and fault diagnostics in our engineering lab
  • Contribute to technical documentation such as:
    • Specifications
    • Schematics
    • Test reports (ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements)
  • Collaborate in a focused, agile team, delivering high-quality technical input under senior guidance

About You

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented engineer who can thrive in a collaborative environment and demonstrate a strong technical foundation. Key requirements include:

  • Understanding of core electronic principles
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics
  • Knowledge of engineering documents and Bill of Materials (BOM) tracking
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes (e.g. PCB fabrication, assembly)
  • Experience with professional eCAD software, preferably PADS PRO
  • Hands-on experience with electronics simulation tools, ideally LTspice
  • Lab-based experience (competence in soldering, oscilloscope use, testing)
  • Awareness of regulatory compliance (relevant certifications/types a plus)
  • Strong communication skills; ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
