Junior RAN Test Engineer
Role Overview
As a Junior RAN Test Engineer, you will join Ericsson’s RAN Test Team and help ensure our 4G/5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions function as expected before deployment in live customer networks.
This is an early-career role designed for recent graduates. It offers structured support, mentorship, and a steady progression to build proficiency in mobile networks, testing methods, and automation.
From the start, you will collaborate with Integration Engineers, Network Engineers, and Test Managers on real projects. The role suits those who enjoy problem-solving, understanding technical systems, and exploring mobile networks and automation/AI. Over time, you can progress towards roles such as Integration Engineer, Network Engineer, or Test Specialist within Ericsson.
What You Will Do
Your first months will focus on learning and onboarding before gradually taking on more responsibility.
You will:
- Follow a structured onboarding program covering 4G/5G RAN concepts, Ericsson tools, and working methodologies, combining internal learning platforms with hands-on local workshops.
- Shadow senior colleagues during test planning, execution, and troubleshooting before transitioning to manage small, well-defined tasks with mentorship.
- Assist in preparing and running test cases for new software releases, features, and configuration updates in the RAN test environment under senior guidance.
- Collect and analyse logs, traces, and basic KPIs from test runs to support issue investigation and result review.
- Utilise existing automation frameworks and scripts to execute tests, with the eventual opportunity to contribute small improvements (e.g. log parsing or report generation).
- Perform routine tasks such as applying software updates and making configuration changes once you have been trained.
- Document test cases, results, and defects in standard Ericsson tools (Azure DevOps/Jira) with clear, traceable notes.
- Participate in regular team meetings (stand-ups, planning, retrospectives) while collaborating closely with colleagues across various global functions, sharing observations for incremental improvements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
