Junior RAN Test Engineer
Ericsson – Reading, UK
Role Overview
As a Junior RAN Test Engineer, you will join Ericsson’s RAN Test team and contribute to ensuring our 4G/5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions function as intended before deployment in live networks. This early-career role is designed for recent graduates, offering structured support and mentorship to build confidence in mobile networks, test methods, and automation over time.
You’ll begin with foundational training—gradually taking on more responsibilities while working alongside Integration Engineers, Network Engineers, and Test Managers. Ideal for those who enjoy practical problem-solving, lifelong learning, and hands-on work with testing, automation, and AI. Growth opportunities include progression to roles like Integration Engineer, Network Engineer, or Test Specialist.
What You Will Do
Initial Focus: Learning and Skill-Building
Your early months will prioritise structured learning, with increased responsibility as you gain confidence.
You will:
- Follow a structured onboarding plan covering:
- 4G/5G RAN concepts
- Ericsson tools and methodologies via internal training platforms and local workshops
- Shadow senior engineers during test planning, execution, and troubleshooting, then independently tackle small, clearly defined tasks with full support.
- Assist in:
- Preparing and running test cases for new software releases, features, and configurations in the RAN test environment.
- Compiling and organising logs, traces, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to diagnose test results.
- Enabling existing automation frameworks and scripts for test execution, with opportunities to refine processes (e.g., log parsing or generating reports).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
