Junior RAN Test Engineer

Role Overview You will join Ericsson’s RAN Test team as a Junior RAN Test Engineer, ensuring our 4G/5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions perform as expected before deployment into live customer networks. This is an early-career role designed for recent graduates, offering structured support, mentoring, and a clear learning pathway to build expertise in mobile networks, test methods, and automation at a measured pace.

You will begin by mastering foundational knowledge and contributing to real-world project work alongside Integration Engineers, Network Engineers, and Test Managers. This role suits those who enjoy problem-solving, understanding technical systems, and exploring how mobile networks function. Over time, you can progress towards roles such as Integration Engineer, Network Engineer, or Test Specialist at Ericsson.

What You Will Do

Your journey starts with focused learning, with increasing responsibility as you gain confidence. Key responsibilities include:

  • Learning & Onboarding

    • Follow a structured onboarding plan covering 4G/5G RAN concepts, Ericsson tools, and internal ways of working through learning platforms and local workshops.
  • Hands-On Contributions

    • Shadow experienced colleagues during test planning, execution, and troubleshooting, gradually taking ownership of small, well-defined tasks with guidance.
    • Assist in preparing and running test cases for new software releases, features, and configuration changes within the RAN test environment, under senior engineer supervision.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Test Execution & Reporting

    • Collect, organise, and analyse logs, traces, and key performance indicators (KPIs) from test runs to support team investigations.
    • Incorporate automation frameworks and scripts for test execution, while incrementally improving them (e.g., parsing logs, generating basic reports).
  • Environment & Tool Maintenance

    • Assist with daily test environment tasks, such as applying software updates or making simple configuration changes, once familiarisation has occurred.
  • Recording & Collaboration

    • Log test cases, results, and defects in Ericsson standard tools (e.g., Azure DevOps/Jira) and document clear, actionable notes.
    • Participate in team routines (stand-ups, planning, retrospectives) and collaborate with a global team while iterating on process improvements.

What You Will Bring

Ericsson values potential and adaptability over prior experience. We are looking for:

  • Palatable technical curiosity, particularly in mobile networks and testing, demonstrated through:
    • Awareness of core networking concepts (IP, routing, latency, throughput).
    • Familiarity with Linux/UNIX environments (terminal usage and basic commands).
    • Experience with at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, C/C++, Bash) from academic projects or personal initiatives.
    • Hands-on testing experience (software, systems testing, lab work) from projects, internships, or academic labs.
