Job Description: Junior RAN Test Engineer
Role Overview
As a Junior RAN Test Engineer, you will join Ericsson’s RAN Test team and play a key role in ensuring our 4G/5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions perform as expected before deployment in live customer networks. This is an early-career role designed for recent graduates, offering structured support, mentorship, and opportunities to build expertise in mobile networks, test methods, and automation.
You’ll start by mastering foundational knowledge and contributing to real projects alongside senior Integration Engineers, Network Engineers, and Test Managers. Ideal candidates thrive on understanding how systems work, solving practical problems, and exploring mobile networks, software/systems testing, and automation/AI. Over time, growth opportunities include progression into roles such as:
- Integration Engineer
- Network Engineer
- Test Specialist
What You Will Do
At the beginning, your focus is on learning and gaining confidence with our tools and workflow. As you grow, you’ll take on increasingly responsible tasks.
You will:
- Follow a structured onboarding plan covering 4G/5G RAN concepts, Ericsson tools, and our ways of working, using internal learning platforms and local workshops.
- Shadow experienced colleagues during test planning, execution, and troubleshooting, then gradually own small, well-defined tasks with ongoing support.
- Help prepare and run test cases for new software loads, features, and configuration changes in the RAN test environment, working under senior engineer guidance.
- Collect, organise, and log traces, data, and basic KPIs from test runs to aid the team in analysing results and resolving issues.
- Use existing automation frameworks and scripts to execute tests and, over time, propose improvements (e.g., log parsing or new report generation).
- Assist with day-to-day test environment maintenance (e.g., applying software updates or configuration changes) after proper training.
- Document test cases, results, and defects in Ericsson standard tools (e.g., Azure DevOps/Jira), ensuring clear, actionable notes for future reference.
- Participate in team routines (stand-ups, planning, retrospectives) while fostering cross-functional collaboration with colleagues across locations.
- Identify and propose small process improvements based on your observations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
