Role Overview
As a Junior RAN Test Engineer, you will join Ericsson’s RAN Test team and help ensure our 4G/5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions function as expected before deployment in live customer networks. This is an early-career role tailored for recent graduates, featuring structured support, mentoring, and incremental skill-building in mobile networks, test methods, and automation.
Within the role, you’ll begin by mastering fundamentals while contributing directly to real-world projects alongside Integration Engineers, Network Engineers, and Test Managers. Ideal candidates enjoy understanding technical systems, problem-solving practically, and exploring mobile networks, software/systems testing, and automation/AI. Over time, career progression may lead to roles such as Integration Engineer, Network Engineer, or Test Specialist.
What You Will Do
Initially, your focus will be on learning and gaining confidence in Ericsson’s tools and workflows, with responsibilities expanding as your expertise grows.
You will:
- Onboarding & Learning:
- Follow a structured training plan covering 4G/5G RAN concepts, Ericsson tools, and company processes via internal learning platforms and workshops.
- Shadowing & Development:
- Observe experienced colleagues during test planning, execution, and troubleshooting, progressively taking ownership of small, defined tasks with guided support.
- Test Case Execution:
- Assist in preparing and running test cases for new software releases, features, or configuration changes in the RAN test environment, under senior guidance.
- Data Collection & Analysis:
- Gather, organise, and document logs, traces, and basic KPIs from test runs to aid the team in result interpretation and issue resolution.
- Automation Contributions:
- Use existing automation frameworks and scripts to execute tests; over time, propose small improvements (e.g., log parsing, report generation).
- Environment Management:
- Collaborate on routine test environment tasks, including software updates and configuration changes, after initial training.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Log test cases, results, and defects in Ericsson’s standard tools (e.g., Azure DevOps/Jira) with precise, actionable notes.
- Team Collaboration:
- Engage in daily stand-ups, planning meetings, retrospectives, and cross-functional collaboration across global teams.
- Propose process refinements based on your observations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
