Junior Linux System Administrator – Platinum Account Role

The Role

One of our platinum accounts is currently looking to onboard Junior Linux System Administrators at various experience levels. The ideal candidate will thrive in a cross-team environment, bringing innovation, analytical thinking, and a meticulous eye for detail. This role focuses on implementing standards, policies, and procedures to drive continuous service improvement.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide first- and second-line technical support for incidents and problems
  • Monitor system performance and ensure seamless operational functionality
  • Create, maintain, and leverage comprehensive documentation
  • Assist in process compliance and policy adherence

What You Bring to the Team

The right candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Familiarity with ITIL best practices
  • A problem-solver’s mindset, eager to identify root causes
  • Commitment to knowledge-sharing and continuous learning
  • A proactive approach to risk identification and analysis

Desirable Skills & Technologies

Proficiency or familiarity with the following would be advantageous:

  • UNIX/Linux systems (Red Hat, Debian, Solaris, AIX)
  • Shell scripting (Bash, KornShell)
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
    • Tools like Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef
    • Process & job control (cron, at, systemd timers)
  • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, FTP)
  • Filesystem management (LVM, ext4, XFS, ZFS)
  • Performance tuning & monitoring (top, vmstat, iostat, sar, netstat)
  • Experience with automation avenues, particularly Ansible or Puppet
  • Scripting knowledge (Bash, Python + version control with Git)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS
  • Exposure to virtualisation & containers (KVM, VMware, Docker, Podman)
