Junior Mechanical Engineer / Technical Clerk
We are seeking a motivated Junior Mechanical Engineer / Technical Clerk to support our client’s construction projects providing technical and administrative assistance to the mechanical engineering/construction team.

This will be a 6 month contract role based near Stevenage and running up until early March 2027 and operating on an Inside IR35 PAYE basis. Rates are expected to be around £25 per hour PAYE working 45 hours per week on site – no hybrid.
A description is given below but candidates should possess 0-2 years of experience in construction, building services, or mechanical engineering, and have a basic understanding of mechanical systems (Pumps, Vessels etc.). Experience with BIM software (Revit, Navisworks) is desirable plus an understanding of health and safety regulations (CDM 2015).
This role is ideal for graduates or early-career professionals looking to develop their skills in the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and design documents
- Conduct site inspections and prepare technical reports on installation progress and quality
- Support the preparation of technical submittals, method statements, and risk assessments
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors on technical matters
Documentation & Administration
- Maintain project files, technical documentation, and as-built drawings
- Prepare and distribute RFIs (Requests for Information) and technical queries
- Track and document site variations, change orders, and design modifications
- Assist in maintaining project schedules and progress reports
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and quality standards
Site Coordination
- Attending site meetings when necessary
- Monitor installation works to ensure compliance with design specifications/Vendor specifications
- Assist in resolving technical issues and coordination conflicts on site
- Support handover activities – Inspections & sign-off in Field View (final QVDS-Check sheets)

Required Qualifications
Education
- HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
- CCNSG
Skills & Experience
- 0-2 years of experience in construction, building services, or mechanical engineering
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems (Pumps, Vessels etc.)
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Desirable Attributes
- Experience with BIM software (Revit, Navisworks) is a plus
- Understanding of health and safety regulations (CDM 2015)
