Job Title: Junior NPD Technologist
Pullins Bakery is a fourth-generation family business, producing high quality ambient and frozen bakery products from three production sites. The business has received multiple awards and recognition for its products, which it sells through five retail shops, as well as national accounts.
Short Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic Junior NPD Technologist to join our growing team in our bakery near Bristol. This hands-on role will report to the NPD Manager and work closely with an NPD Technologist to develop products from concept to launch, ensuring the successful transfer of products from NPD stage to full production. The successful candidate will develop new and existing recipe ideas from a brief, produce customer samples, create recipe documentation, and work with the wider team to manage bakery trials. The role will deliver exciting new products under the company's own brands and private label.

What you’ll be doing:
- Coming up with new and interesting product ideas tailored to a customer brief or sector
- Researching new ingredients and packaging from both existing and new suppliers
- Keeping up to date with market trends and new concepts
- Creating and testing recipes from concept right through the manufacturing process
- Understanding budgets and the full manufacturing process to create recipes and formats in accordance with these
- Producing high quality samples that are both visually and organoleptically pleasing
- Scientific understanding of the process parameters and impact on product to meet the end goal
- Writing up recipes to final batch quantities and collecting process data ready for Work Instruction documents
- Working closely and communicating effectively with all departments to ensure the smooth and successful launch of products
- Corresponding with and presenting to customers where necessary
- Assisting with shelf life and organoleptic reviews
- Identifying potential improvements to existing recipes and implementing them (with consultation)
- Organising and managing product trials
- Assisting with first production runs with customers where necessary

Requirements:
- Recent graduate in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, or a related field.
- A genuine passion for food innovation and new product development
- Must have a clean or near clean driving licence
- Able to work extended hours on occasions where required
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- A proactive mindset, self-driven and able to adapt to last minute changes
- Working to high standards against tight deadlines
More Details
The role is based at our Kenn Moor Bakery, BS21 6TZ.
The working hours are Monday to Friday, typically 8am – 4pm, though start and finish time is flexible.
