Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
We have clearly set out in our job description and person specification the essential criteria for the roles (please see below).
You may be thinking about taking time to consider your future career direction while still working and acquiring additional skills and experience or you may have elected to take time away from training progression but now wish to re-establish a foothold in the profession. Alternatively, you may be looking to take time out of your training programme to gain further experience in emergency medicine in a major trauma centre. We welcome all applications!

- Have a good and wide-ranging recent experience of clinical medicine in an acute inpatient setting.
For a Senior post
We expect you to have at least five years post MBBS (or equivalent) in addition to at least 1 year of experience in an NHS Emergency Department (ED). It would be desirable to have experience in Paediatric Medicine, Paediatric Surgery, or Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

- Full MRCEM or MRCPCH.
- Have a good and wide-ranging recent experience of clinical medicine in an acute inpatient setting.
These are service posts, so they do not have educational approval, but you will be provided with excellent training and educational opportunities, tailored to meet your individual needs.
We expect that you will keep yourself up to date with current knowledge and practice, attend clinical meetings within the department, and participate in audit and in-service training of other professionals.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
